I painted "Big Mama" as I was finished up my business degrees at EWU. I knew I wanted to become a professional artist so I challenged myself to my biggest painting yet. Just like this dahlia, I felt like something was about to bloom in me.
I used an old window as the frame for this piece. It measures 45.5" x 56" and the canvas is stapled into the frame. There's something about the contradiction of the flower's new life and the weathered old soul of the frame that I love!
