Lauren Urlacher is an artist from Spokane, Washington. She has always considered herself creative, though never considered making a career out of being an artist until after she had graduated from business school. She took art classes in high school, but then chose the "practical" path earning degrees Operations Management, Marketing, and Communication Studies. Once exhausted from graduating with a few fancy pieces of paper and the burnout that comes with them, Lauren decided it was time to paint again.
She picked up painting again in 2016. To start, she revisited an assignment from high school: painting a dahlia. After completing her first piece in 6 years, she wanted to do it again to see if she could do it better. This cycle continued again and again until the challenge of getting back into painting turned into an obsession of mastering a subject. With each new painting, the goal is to learn and grow through new color palettes, compositions, petal structure, and lighting. When the challenge becomes monotony, she'll move on to new subjects. But for now, dahlias are still the artistic obsession.
Lauren paints out of her home studio in Spokane. Her cat Biscuit keeps her company in the studio and is always a welcomed distraction! When she isn't painting she can be found spending time with her husband, working at her part-time job as a community manager, or dabbling in one of her many other creative curiosities.
